Starting therapy can feel intimidating, knowing what to expect can help.

Intake Consultations

The intake consultation is an opportunity for you to share the challenges you’re experiencing, or the goals you’d like to work towards in therapy. It also provides you with the opportunity to hear more about my approach and to get a sense of the therapeutic environment. Intake consultations are free of charge, and about 20 minutes in length. At the end of the intake consultation, you’ll have the opportunity to schedule your first psychotherapy session, or you may decide to think about it, and then can book your first session online when you’re ready.

Therapy Session Structure

The content and focus of each session will be different for each client, however will always consist of a supportive, non-judgemental environment with the aim of making you feel comfortable sharing. The structure of the session may fluctuate depending on the stage in the therapeutic process but generally consists of talk therapy, psychoeducation, and potential exercises and activities, depending on the presenting issue and client preference. Some of my clients prefer a more structured approach, whereas others prefer an unstructured approach. I aim to work collaboratively with you to identify an approach that works for you.

FAQs

What format are sessions offered in?

I currently offer virtual sessions only. Virtual sessions are hosted through Jane, a secure video platform. Jane is fully compliant with privacy regulations, including the Personal Health Information Protection Act in Ontario, and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act in Canada. All video sessions are encrypted and no recordings are stored, ensuring your personal health information is kept confidential and secure.

Can you provide psychotherapy to anyone?

I am able to provide psychotherapy to residents of Ontario and Alberta. While I am qualified to work with individuals of all ages, my practice primarily focuses on supporting adults through life transitions, emotional challenges, and personal growth.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions can vary widely from person to person based on several factors, including your goals for therapy, the nature and complexity of the issues you're working through, and your personal preferences. Some clients find a few sessions helpful for gaining clarity or support during a specific transition, while others benefit from a longer-term process to explore deeper patterns and make lasting change.

We'll work together to determine what feels right for you, and we’ll revisit this conversation as we go. Most clients prefer weekly sessions at first, while others may find biweekly or even monthly sessions more suitable as they progress. My role is to support you in a way that aligns with your needs and goals.

How does billing work?

All clients are required to enter their credit card information into Jane prior to booking their first psychotherapy session (this is not required for intake consultations). Upon completion of the session, your card will be automatically charged and a receipt will be emailed to you. Alternatively, I also accept e-transfer for payment, however a credit card is still required on file. Jane currently accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover and Visa Debit & Debit Mastercard.

How do I use my benefit coverage for my sessions?

I do not submit any fees directly to benefit providers. Instead, clients are billed directly and provided with a receipt to submit to their benefit provider for reimbursement. Most benefit plans provide coverage for psychotherapists, however I encourage you to review the details of your coverage prior to booking a session.

I’m ready to book! Now what?

Please click on the “Schedule a Session” button at the top right hand corner of the site. This will open a new tab to the Jane booking page. You can either select an Intake Consultation (recommended), or book a full session.
